« Step-Blog | Main | Let's Get Ready To Row Our Boats--REALLY Gently Down The Stream »

Vito, Vito, Vito!

On Saturday morning--before he hosted an excellent Film Shorts Festival/Popcorn Party at our place--Matt picked me up in an I-GO car. (My first! It had a magic wand for a key! Someone left a Swisher Sweet in it!). We were off to find a companion for him, and not of the mailorder-bride kind.

For his birthday I had offered to take him to the Anti-Cruelty Society, where Meghan has been volunteering (and then enticing me with regular emails about the specific cats she's nursed back to health). He was ready for his first cat, and glad to have someone to help/push him through the process. We were both excited as we stopped by Target to get goodies for his future friend. I was in full Remember You'll Need This And You Simply Must Ask Me For Guidance At Every Turn mode, but Matt's probably used to that. Besides, I really am a bit of an expert in cat care, unsexy as that is.

I'd stopped by the day before and done some research online about the available kitties, which was probably a good thing because it can be overwhelming to choose just feline out of fifty, especially your first ever. I tried steering him toward some of the beautiful tabbies; instead, he went for a scratty cat I'd only noted for being personable and recently returned. Vito was a staff favorite but hard to place because people still have it out for black cats. But we knew it was a good match when Matt started to spontaneously break out in Smoochy Talk: "Yeshh...I yub yoo, too!"

Three hours later and Vito was home. Well, he was at my home, at least, since Matt and I didn't have a chance to get him settled before the party. And even though he was up against my own three moggies and in a completely new place, Vito was the star of the show. A cuddly, curious show-off obviously adored by his new dad. So consider this your feel-good, happy-ending, Guideposts-ready story of the day.

this is some cute crap.

Oh my, Lordy. A cute man with a cute cat.

I felt relief when I read this post. Relief that I don't have a cat to care for at home.

I recognize that probably isn't the feeling you were trying to evoke, but there it is.

Dag. That's harsh.
